SW Environmental’s experience providing biodiversity survey and approvals work for lineal infrastructure in the South West of Western Australia is second to none. We provide environmental services for road, power, water, and pipeline proponents across West Australia.
We’ve completed services for well over 400 hundred lineal infrastructure projects including planning, assessment, approvals and technical surveys for State Highway upgrades and realignments, Local Government roads and upgrades, regional scale HV transmission line developments, large scale water pipelines, dual use footpaths, tracks and trails.
Our team understands the approval pathways, exemptions, survey constraints, and construction realities unique to linear projects, from route selection and enabling works through to construction and commissioning.
This experience informs our practical, regulator-ready approach to managing approvals, field delivery, and compliance.

Linear infrastructure programs commonly trigger native vegetation clearing, threatened species requirements, heritage interfaces, and multi-agency regulatory oversight. Budgets are constrained, timeframes are tight, and works are often staged across long corridors with changing site conditions.
We scope and manage the environmental approval pathway early, identify key constraints and opportunities, and prepare regulator-ready documentation for approvals or exemptions to assist timelines in aligning with procurement and construction sequencing. This provides project teams with clear direction, reduces approval risk, and supports efficient decision-making throughout delivery.
We deliver due diligence and constraints mapping, environmental approvals and management plans, flora and fauna surveys, and targeted habitat assessments for corridors and easements. Our team manages clearing permits, EPBC referrals, and agency liaison, and provides fauna preclearance during works. We prepare environmental management plans, revegetation plans, offsets, and GIS mapping to support approvals and management.
Customer service and quality assurance is underpinned by our ISO9001 compliant integrated management system.

We have worked with Shane and his team at SW Environmental on projects big and small for well over a decade. They have always provided professional advice and service on even the most sensitive and difficult of sites and situations. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
Shane and the SW Environmental team have a solid understanding of ecology in the South West Region and provide invaluable services on Black Cockatoo and Western Ringtail Possum, from baseline surveys to environmental impact assessment to fauna pre-clearance and relocation.
We have delivered environmental approvals, surveys, and on-ground compliance support across major linear infrastructure projects in Western Australia, including the Bunbury Outer Ring Road (Wilman Wadandi Hwy) and numerous other State Highway projects.
Our experience extends to renewable energy projects, including transmission line corridors and associated access and enabling works.
Our specialists bring the insight, clarity, and reliability needed to deliver efficient, compliant, and stress-free project outcomes.
Senior consultants lead each project from start to finish. Each project is carefully overseen by a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CenvP) accredited with EIANZ.
We offer the expertise of a major firm, but with lower costs, and a level of personal engagement big corporates can’t match.
Locally recognised expertise with over 100 years of combined experience in the region and over 1000 projects delivered.
South West WA is a biodiversity hotspot which creates unique challenges for projects. We are recognised regional experts surveying and managing black cockatoos and western ringtail possums.
We are centrally located in the South West region and can mobilise teams quickly at a lower cost. Our authorised fauna spotting team have a specific license for urgent works no hold ups.
Our competitive pricing reflects our experience not quality. You get big-firm confidence without the big-firm price tag.
Senior consultants and Certified Environmental Practitioners lead and deliver the work you receive, not just the initial engagement. Our strong local knowledge, combined with regional presence and efficient delivery, allows us to produce clear, defensible documentation aligned with regulatory expectations without unnecessary delay or cost.
Call us for free preliminary advice on your likely approval pathways, timelines and costs.
Start with a short call or send your route map and scope. You will receive a prompt assessment of risks, a recommended pathway, and a detailed quote with inclusions and timeframes. We then schedule surveys or submissions and keep you informed until approvals and preclearance are complete.
Allow several months to weeks for typical clearing permits and referrals once inputs are ready. Complex or multi agency submissions can take longer. We sequence surveys and drafting so approvals land before procurement and early works.
Spring is the preferred window for many flora surveys in the South West, while fauna work can occur year-round with method adjustments. We lock in survey timing early, so your fauna survey delivers robust results.
A clear route alignment, activity description, access plans, and any prior studies are ideal. We can fill data gaps with targeted fieldwork and GIS analysis, then progress drafting in parallel to save time.
We manage scoping calls, track actions, and present concise evidence that answers likely questions. As your infrastructure EIA consultant, we aim for fewer iterations and faster agreement on conditions.
We brief crews, deliver flora and fauna preclearance, and keep daily records. This construction environmental support meets audit needs and helps supervisors make safe, compliant decisions.
We assess the change, advise if a modification is required, and update reports or permits quickly. Our goal is to keep works moving while maintaining a clean compliance record.
We believe in a straightforward approach to every project, providing expert solutions designed to get you from point A to point B as efficiently as possible.

Main Roads (South West Region) has engaged Shane Priddle of SW environmental on several occasions over the past four years to undertake environmental assessments and fauna surveys as well as arrange for additional surveys by other consultants to supplement the assessment reports.
We have found that Shane communicates well, making appropriate inquiries to clarify issues, is helpfully suggestive and is responsive to feedback. He has shown that he is able to manage multiple projects to meet completion deadlines with quality reports for complex projects.
Shane has been engaged by NGH Environmental for a number of projects which I have managed. Shane has completed GIS mapping work and environmental impact assessment tasks. Shane has been an asset to the team due to his expertise in mapping combined with his impact assessment knowledge. I have found Shane’s work to be of a high quality and he has always been able to meet project deadlines. A couple of projects which Shane was involved in were complex, particularly the mapping due to numerous design changes and Shane’s background in ecology was invaluable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Shane to other clients.
Our group has found SW Environmental to be very professional. Shane has been very helpful in assisting us, and we have found his reports to be to be very thorough, delivered in a timely manner, and very good value for money. I am happy to recommend him for such projects.
On a project of this scale land access is one of the major hurdles for completing in a timely manner. Shane Priddle was in constant contact with Western Powers field officers discussing land access and the field officers were able to help sufficiently. What ensued was the timely delivery of a flora and fauna survey over a 300km long alignment.
The reports for the survey were of a high quality, specifically the maps that were produced were great and the GIS data was provided to Western Power is exactly what we were after.”
We were very pleased with the friendly, professional, honesty and cost effective services and will certainly engage SW Environmental for future services.
